Review: Ashlee Simpson (-Wentz) - Bittersweet World

'Bittersweet World' is Ashlee's 3rd studio album and in a similar way to Jesse McCartney's latest it marks a change in genre for Ashlee. In fact she's worked with some of the top producers of the moment, including Timbaland and Chad Hugo. You would think that this album then is the recipe for success?

Well I think so. This album is amazing. Unlike Madonna's latest Ashlee doesn't seem to have just applied her voice to a Nelly Furtado album, she's stuck with what she knows. At the core of this album is a very pop/rock orientated sound, similar to her previous albums. However what makes this album stand out compare to those two is the production. You can't really tell which songs have been produced by Timbaland, like I said Ashlee hasn't gone for a Loose-type album. It seems like she's just applied Timbaland to her normal style, the songs all sound great.

I don't think there is one weak track on this album. I mean in some places Ashlee's vocals could be better but there is something about Ashlee's voice I like, it's unique. It makes her stand out, she isn't just another great singer, there is something quirky and enticing about it.

Some of the tracks are a bit strange, 'Hot Stuff' is probably the strangest but it's fun at the same time, it's not just weird, it's interesting. It really is a shame that the general public don't seem to have taken to Ashlee's new sound, she's improved a lot since 'I Am Me'. I honestly can't choose favourite tracks because they are all so good, in different ways. Some are rockier while others bring a more contemporary edge.

I give this album 5/5. You must go out and buy it now! It was released in the UK this Monday and has been out in the US for ages now. Seriously go and buy it!!

What do you think of Bittersweet World?
