Review: Alanis Morissette - Flavors of Entanglement

Flavors of Entanglement is Alanis Morissette's 7th studio album, her first since 2004. I'll start off by saying I have never listened to an Alanis album before, I think I've listened to about 1 song from her a couple of times. She's just slipped under my radar. But this new album grabbed my attention, I don't know why I just thought I wasn't going to lose any time listening to it, so I might as well. I am very very glad I did.

Vocally, Alanis is very good, there is something about her voice that makes you want to listen, true she's no Leona Lewis or Mariah Carey but I think it's a good thing, her voice draws you in rather than just going for the 'Wow' factor. The lyrics are also similar, they match with her voice and again the way the songs are written draw you in.

A fair few listens in and I can say that I really like this album, it's a mix of genres pop/rock mainly but you can tell there are other influences yet most of the album is very soft and easy to listen to. 'Not As We' stood out for me on my first listen it is amazing, one of the best tracks on the album. Another stand out track is 'Straitjacket' which sounds like it's got R&B influences, that mixed with Alanis' voice is not a bad thing! The other thing I like about this album is the emotion you can hear in Alanis' voice, it's immense.

I give this album 4/5. It is definately worth the buy! Make sure you pick it up June 2nd (UK) and June 10th (US).

What do you think of 'Flavors of Entanglement'?
